(Including Models 1881, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 18.) Note that records are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers are often duplicated, and the dates recorded are apparently shipping dates, not dates of manufacture.
I hope this helps all Marlin owners:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Marlin Year of Manufacture Marlin year of manufacture maybe determined from the following list of letter/numeral prefixs to the serial number; this coding only applies to serialized rifles:1946-C1947-D1948-E1949-F1950-G1951-H1952-J1953-K1954-L1955-M1956-N1957-P1958-R1959-S1960 (August)-1961-U1961 (August)-1962-V1963-W1964-Y,-Z1965-AA1966-AB1967-AC1968-AD, -681969-691970-701971-711972-72Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture maybe determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100: Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75] and SN 94365295 would have been made in 2006 [ 100 - 94 = 06 (2006) ]. I bought mine in 1965, used it a few years for Ground Hog hunting, and stored it away. I have a Model 60SS that I determined that the Manufacure year is 1996. I would like to know if there is a way to determine the month of manufacture.***While potentially not relevant to this specific thread. Singlebörse wels As of late 2013, a Marlin .22 RF rifle (XT-22 Mag) had a serial number prefix of MM reported and verified. In order to find the year of manufacture one needs to know the **first two character’s** of the serial number as a minimum, either letters, numbers, or a letter number combination. In addition to the first two characters of the serial number, it’s also imperative in many cases to know the model number.
Dating marlin 60
This was done in conjunction with the sale of Marlin, and subsequent move to the Remington Arms plant in Ilion, NY.Speculation is that once receivers started being manufactured at the Ilion, NY, plant the prefix became MR.I have been thinking about buying from him but not sure what they're worth. I think his brother used to own a gun store many years ago and recently died leaving him these guns.it is a .22 caliber and has the model golden 39A stamped in gold on the barrel. He is also ill and is wanting to sell some of them. I received a Marlin Glenfield Model 60 with serial #70178817.For Marlin Rimfire Rifles [non-serialized]: From 1962 thru 1968 Marlins rimfire rifles (other than the 39 series lever actions) used a two letter date code that was stamped on the barrel. It was fairly accurate, a great mechanism, and still a beautiful gun. Thank you, Frank I have a rifle like dds that does not have the markings that it should have, it's a marlin glenfield mod. that along with the are marked on the left side of the barrel. My serial number is behind the hammer right where the stock joins the gun.
